Bedrooms

The most important thing about a place to stay is getting enough sleep. So, we begin with the bedrooms…

Fragrance Free Bedding

All of our sheets are crisp 100% cotton, washed in BioKleen laundry soap, 7th Generation spot spray and hydrogen peroxide bleach (non-chlorine). We wash all of the duvet covers, sheets and pillow cases between guests.

The sheets and duvet covers are white so you can be sure they are clean.

Mattresses

Both of our mattresses are certified organic and free of flame retardant chemicals. The mattress on the wood bedframe is is 100% organic latex from a local store, Bedrooms and More. The mattress on the brass bed is from Royal Pedic and contains only cotton, wool and springs (from France), topped with an organic latex topper.

Mattresses are encased in a white, 100% cotton zippered cover and topped with a mattress cover that we wash between guests.

Pillows

We are picky about pillows, and we think a lot of people are. So, we have a variety of pillows to choose from. Some are down (RDS certified humane) and some are poly-fill. Most are from The Company Store. If you like fluffy pillows or flatter pillows, we probably have you covered for comfort.

We triple wrap our pillows in cotton pillow covers and wash all three layers between guests.

Blackout Curtains & White Noise

Both bedrooms have blackout curtains, but the bedroom with a sunny-east facing window has a blackout blind and dark curtains. The brass-bed bedroom has a window that faces North and has a blackout curtain so dark that you can’t tell what time of day it is when the curtain is closed.

The brass bed-bedroom has a fountain outside the window that provides a gentle sound of splashing water. We can turn if off it white noise isn’t your jam. This bedroom also has an air exchange unit that hums on the other side of the closet wall. It brings fresh-filtered air into the apartment and sends indoor air out. Again, you can turn it off if you prefer, but people who like white noise love it.

We also have a portable fan that can add white noise to either bedroom.

Living Room

Comfortable furniture, fast internet and lots of TV channels

Furniture

Yes, it’s white, but it is slipcovered in a washable 100% cover so you can still relax and not worry too much about spills. The nice thing about white is that you know it’s clean when you arrive.

The large chair by the window folds out to become a twin bed with an air mattress. It’s made up with fresh sheets for a comfortable night’s sleep.

Television

The wall-mounted TV is fully loaded with streaming services. We have Hulu, Apple, HBO, Netflix, Prime with Paramount, Britbox, Acorn and more.

WiFi

High speed fiber optic wifi with plug in points for ethernet.

Windows

The room looks out at the garden on three sides, north, east, and south. There’s even a peek-a-boo view of Lake Washington - it’s very peek-a-boo as it is through the neighbor’s fence and across their yard.

The sliding glass door (on the same wall as the TV) opens onto a wooden deck. It has a gas BBQ, table and chairs and a large herb pot full of kitchen herbs and spices. The deck is shaded by a red Japanese Maple tree in summer; it loses its leaves in the winter which lets more light in. Seattle winters can be dark, but the apartment gets lots of natural light year-round.

The windows to the south open onto a vegetable garden, that definitely looks best from spring until first frost, but there is always something growing out there. Right now, August 2023 the garden is wild with pumpkin vines and leaves blocking the paths. I’ve broken my foot and cannot get down there to do repairs for a few more weeks.

Fresh veggies - tomatoes are almost ripe and there are trellises with Mexican Gherkins growing like crazy and definitely ready to be picked.

Lighting

There is an array of ceiling lights on a dimmer switch for bright to mood lighting and anywhere inbetween.

Kitchen

Huge new refrigerator with ice and water in the door. Plenty of dishes and all the appliances and pots and pans you need for cooking and baking. There are even vases for bouquets. Dinnerware is Mikasa. Pottery cups are from a local potter, anthropologie and local boutiques.

Appliances

The range is electric with an easy-to-clean glass top. The refrigerator has filtered water and ice in the door, fed by a copper pipe (no plastic plumbing in this place).

The dishwasher is Asko and does a great job of getting dishes clean. It is very low decibel. We provide 7th Generation dishwasher detergent (under the sink).

The microwave looks small, but fits a full-size dinner plate.

There’s a Cuisinart food processor, Ninja blender and a Kitchenaid mixer in the lower cupboard next to the fridge. On the counter there is an electric kettle, toaster and coffee machine.

Dishes Etc.

Mikasa plates, plenty of glassware, including wine and martini glasses. We have handmade pottery bowls and mugs from local potter Valentina. Plenty of pots and pans, cookie sheets, muffin pans and more for cooking. And a large assortment of mugs in big and small sizes, some handmade, some from Anthropologie and others from local shops.

Countertop & Island

The countertops are quartz, for easy maintenance. The kitchen island has an FSC certified wooden top - we have lots of cutting boards so we can keep the wooden top looking great.

The island has seating for 2 and measures 60” x 35” for a good amount of work and eating space.

Window

The kitchen window looks out at a small water feature where birds like to take baths. The window opens for a nice breeze from the north.

Lighting

There is under-cabinet lighting as well as two pendant lights on the ceiling. They are all on dimmer switches so you can get it as bright as you want or dim the light as you wish.

Bathroom, Laundry & Cleaning

All cleaning supplies provided, including laundry soap, spray and peroxide bleach

Key Points

There is a built in vacuum system. You will never need to change or even see a vacuum bag. The hose pulls out from the wall and sucks back in when you are finished.

In the bathroom the toilet is wall mounted for easy cleaning and set at an ADA height. It is equipped with a temperature-controlled Toto bidet seat.

The shower plumbing is Delta and holds the temp just how you like it between showers - it’s easy to get the temp you want. One of the shower heads is extra high for tall people and the other is on a slider that goes low enough for kids.

The apartment has its own full-sized hot water tank. It also has its own electrical panel

The washing machine and dryer set is Miele.

In the laundry closet, we have extra sheets towels, blankets and rugs. There is also a short step ladder, a space heater, fan, steam mop, BlueAir hepa air purifier, broom and dustpan.

Of course, there is also an extra-large ironing board and Rowenta iron.

Fragrance free laundry soap, stain spray, dryer balls and cleaning supplies are also in the laundry closet.

State of the art air exchange unit brings fresh air in from the outside and takes indoor air out. You will be able to get fresh air even when the windows are all closed.

Extra Door for Quiet

We designed the apartment with an extra door to separate the sleeping area from the living room and kitchen so if somebody is sleeping, they won’t hear the noise going on in the rest of the apartment.

Outdoors

Organic garden with ornamental and edible plantings

The galvanized pot on the S. end of the deck has kitchen herbs in it — oregano, sage, thyme, rosemary and more.

Entry Garden, Deck and Paddle Board Parking

We share the veggie garden with the apartment, but the back deck is private - just for renters of the apartment. It has a Weber gas grill, and a table and chair set.

The apartment also has a professionally-designed front entry/courtyard area with a fountain and beautiful plantings.

Something is always blooming in the garden. These photos were taken in the spring, but right now, January, we have scented winter sarcococca flowers and a huge camellia is just starting to bloom just outside the front door. The vine wall, opposite the front door has many species of vines, so something is blooming from early spring to early winter.

Neighborhood

Safe and friendly area with lake and restaurants and shops, oh my!

Top photo: Walking path facing Mt. Baker beach, with summer lifeguards, a dock with a diving board and bathrooms. This path goes south all the way to Seward Park.

Photo right: This beach is 2 blocks away. It’s a great spot for a swim or to put in a paddle board or kayak.

Walk to Lake Washington

Just two-short blocks, down our street, you’ll find a swimming beach and a 5-mile walking path along the shore of Lake Washington. The path goes from Mt. Baker Beach, which has a swimming dock and lifeguards S. to Seward Park. Seward Park has over 250 acres of old-growth forest (600 year-old trees), a swimming beach and a really great playground.

Walk to Restaurants

Three short blocks away, you’ll find two restaurants with outdoor seating

  • Both Ways Cafe, serving breakfast and lunch. Their biscuits were voted best in Seattle, so if you can eat gluten, you should try them with gravy or raspberry jam. Either way, you’ll be glad you did.

  • Zeek’s Pizza with solidly good pizza and salads with house-made dressing to eat in or take away.

11 blocks further will take you to:

  • Third Place Books Seward Park - an excellent independent book store that shares its space with.

  • Chucks Hop Shop Seward Park (beer, snacks and sometimes food trucks).

  • Pizzutos Italian Cafe - Great food, and even gluten free pasta is available. It’s a neighborhood joint, not fancy, but solidly good Italian food from salads to dessert. It’s all fresh and good.

  • Cafe Vita Seward Park - Coffee shop with delicious baked goods, both savory and sweet, with some outdoor seating.

  • Pet Store - independently owned and operated.

1.2 miles takes you to a larger neighborhood shopping district—Columbia City:

  • Light rail station that runs from the airport, into downtown and over to the University District.

  • PCC natural grocery store (there are also Safeway and QFC grocery stores north of Columbia City)

  • Columbia City Bakery - an award-winning bakery with delicious savory and sweet treats

  • Olympia Coffee (and other coffee shops too… this is Seattle)

  • Independently-owned movie theatre with all the latest movies playing and some independent films as well. Plus popcorn with real butter and fresh baked cookies.

  • Too many pubs and restaurants to list. Columbia City has everything from Carribean, Mexican, Italian,

  • Seattle Public Library,

  • Amazing Farmer’s Market on Wednesday afternoons from spring-fall with food venders. It’s next to a park and a great place to get dinner and hang out.

  • Consignment shop, hair salons, bicycle repair and more!
